TODAY IN WEST SEATTLE-AREA HISTORY – JIMI HENDRIX HOME MOVED, SEPT 11, 2005

The childhood home of rock star Jimi Hendrix is moved from the Central District to Renton in 2005. The move ends a four-year struggle between the city of Seattle and the James Marshall Hendrix Foundation, which was started by Jimi’s brother, Leon Hendrix, and other fans. The two-bedroom house’s site in Renton is in a mobile-home park across from Greenwood Memorial Park, where Hendrix is buried. In 2009, the house was demolished after efforts to preserve it failed. (Compiled from HistoryLink.org)
